The Insurance Talk
It’s time for your teen to get an automobile, so its time for the insurance talk! Oh yeah, sit them down and go over some critical points they need to know before they commit to a vehicle. They might think it all they need to do is buy the car and drive. No, sorry to burst their bubble but you will need to walk them thru the other responsibilities that come with being a car owner.
Insurance Is A MUST Not An Option
There is no way around not getting insurance unless you want to break the law and that is not what we want for our kids. Before they get behind the wheel, there will need to be insurance and the proof will need to be in the car. Buy an envelope that will hold the insurance and registration so they can put in the glovebox.
Stay In School And Get Good Grades
Let them know that good grades will be their most significant discount on the insurance. Yes, getting good grades will lower their rate. Also, some insurance companies even extend this offer into college years too. Keep those A’s and B’s and more money in the pocket.
Accidents and Tickets ARE BAD!
This is actually for everyone but especially young drivers. Being a safe driver will lower your rates in the long run. However, accidents and tickets will stay on their driver’s record for five years or longer depending on the offensive. Any ticket will make insurance rates go up. An accident will raise the price a lot.
No Need For A Fast Car Now
Yes, their first car is important, and of course, they want the car that everyone wants…the fast one! But guess what fast vehicles cost more in insurance. Typically, the faster or more expensive the car is, the more expensive it will cover a teenager on the insurance plan. Teenagers need to understand these few things about auto insurance in addition to how to stay safe while on the road.
