Whether or not you have just given birth to twins or you have just been given the news that you are expecting twins, your heart is probably fluttering slightly and your belly doing somersaults. First things first, this is totally natural. New moms always feel nervous because they have no experience looking after a totally dependent mini-human, so having to look after two is surely going to have you experience moments of panic.
The good news is, mums have been bringing up twins for as long as humans have been around (which is a quite a long time). Chances are, if they could do it way back then, you can do it now. It won’t be easy and it will probably be quite complex at times. So, to help you out a little bit, we have pulled together some words of advice that should simplify your journey a touch and stop those butterflies flapping their wings quite so hard.
Always, Always Trust Your Gut
That little voice inside you is remarkably awesome at helping you make the right decisions and guide you in the right direction. That is why you need to back yourself and listen to that little voice. Chances are, every time you do you will be happy with your choice and every time you ignore your gut, well, you’ll regret it. It’s just the way the universe works.
The Small Wins Are Big Wins
Just because going to a doctor’s appointment before you had twins was easy, doesn’t mean it is still an easy task, which is why you need to drop that belief and celebrate the small wins as huge victories. Making it to a doctor’s appointment on time, with both the kids and everything you need is a massive result. So celebrate them as much as you can.
Do Your Research Every Week
Set aside an hour every Sunday night to just read blogs written by moms that have twins. See what worked for them and what didn’t. Research things like which diaper bags are best for twins by subscribing to innerparents.com and find out which double-pushchairs are able to fit through doors by going online and Googling. If you don’t know if your twins are ready for baby food or not, then speak to other moms. Join forums and Facebook groups and sign up to clubs. The more you know the more prepared you will be.
Accept The Easy Road Sometimes
You have two kids to look after. It is not easy. So don’t make the other parts of your life harder than they have to be. If dinner is going to be a struggle than revel in the fact you are having pizza for dinner and enjoy the fact they will be on paper plates to avoid doing any washing up. The easier you make things for yourself the better. You can always work up to the challenging things later on. Trust us, there are plenty of them on the horizon.
Online Shopping Is Your Friend
Just getting in the car can take 45 minutes. It can be frustrating but that is just life right now. Not forever, but right now. So get into the habit of ordering your groceries online, do your retail therapy online and buy all those bits and bobs the kids need online. It will seriously help with the stress.
