For most first time mothers, we do not have the experience and whatever knowledge we have were from friends who themselves are experienced mothers, from our own mother or mother-in-law. Most of us will try to read as many books on how to take care of our babies.
We tend to follow diligently what the doctor, books or friends say but forget that our babies are all different individuals and they grow at different pace. Some may be slow in certain areas but they can grow fast physically. Some are early talkers but others prefer to wait longer.
It is quite easy to look after new-born babies for the first few months. We only need to make sure they are well fed with milk. Most mothers are eager to introduce organic baby foods into their baby’s diet after a few months. So how do we know when our babies are ready? Most will say that once the babies are around 4 to 6 months, they are ready to start on baby food.
For most healthy babies, as long as they know how to swallow soft food without their tongues pushing out the food, this is one sign that they are ready. Some babies show their dislike by wrinkling up their faces or shuddered once you introduce soft food into their mouth. We need to be patient and wait till they are ready.
Another clear sign is when the babies started to be interested in what the adults are eating. Some will reach out for the food with their little chubby hands and try to grab some to put into their mouth. Some may even drool and drip saliva while watching the adults eat in front of them. These are sure signs that these babies are ready for baby food. To begin with, we can start by introducing applesauce baby food into the baby’s diet because it is rich in vitamin C and a powerful antioxidant. Once the baby is happy and has adjusted well, then we can introduce other delicious flavors to them.
