It’s not a problem you hear much. While most of us are trying to look younger than our years, there are plenty of people out there who are trying to look their age, or older. There are so many of those who are in college or have graduated and while they are 23, they still look a youthful 16. While most of us would consider this an advantage, it does become the bane of your existence after a while. So for those people who are struggling with this unique problem, how can you make yourself look that little bit older without it looking like you’re trying to buy alcohol illegally?
Lose The Kiddie Clothes
If you still wear slacks and Ugg boots, as well as oversized hoodies, it’s time to throw these to the curb, at least during the week. You don’t have to get rid of these things forever, but when you’re trying to maximize your age and intelligence, it’s time to throw logos and bright colors away, at least for now.
Make A Few Simple Swaps
The best way to get yourself looking that bit older is to go overboard on the accessories department. Items like textured tights, handbags, or scarves add an air of sophistication. Jewelry is always a simple little tweak to make. Instead of wearing long dangly earrings, browse earrings that have a bit more finesse. Choosing items that are a bit more vintage certainly help, but try not to go too vintage, as it may clash with your natural youthful looks.
Formal Doesn’t Mean “Older”!
The temptation can be to go ultra formal, so you end up going overboard on office gear. Don’t confuse the two- formal doesn’t always mean older. Instead, go for a few simple formal items, such as a coat, that has a basic color. Anything long, or has a funnel neck, this eases you gently into the formal and mature categories. By picking a few items, such as a pencil skirt that suits your figure, this will add a few years onto you. If you are concerned that you are going too formal with your fashion choices, you can dress it down with some flat boots. But make sure that the clothes are tight fitting, instead of hanging off your body.
Add Some Lipstick
You’d be surprised, but by adding some lipstick, it will change your entire appearance. When it comes to picking the right lipstick, make sure that it suits your skin tone. Don’t be tempted to go for a showy color that clashes with your skin, especially if your complexion is particularly pale. Something like dark red in this respect will only stand out in the wrong way. But if you don’t go for lipstick normally, this is a great way to add that feeling of empowerment to your overall getup. This is something to remember, when it comes to dressing older, a lot of it is about feeling older, especially in the spring months when your friends are dressing down rather than up! So if you don’t feel your age, begin with the wardrobe and go from there.
